The 2016 finals of the ESU Public Speaking Competition was held at Copenhagen International School on 14 April 2016. Due to the very high quality of speeches in the semi-finals, the judges decided that there should be eight finalists instead of the usual six.
All eight were excellent, but we can only send one winner to London and he was Lucas Bredal (second from left) from Ordrup Gymnasium.
We were honoured this year to have as our judges, the British Ambassador, H E Vivien Life, (right) the Deputy Chief of Mission of the United States Embassy, Mr Karl Stolz, and the ESU International Council President, visiting specially from France, Dr. Lucia Dumont Renard (left). We were all delighted by the impromptu speech by Patroness Countess Alexandra (second from left), who is always impressed at the way young Danish students use all kinds of appropriate idioms and quotations in their speeches.

In November 2015, we held our annual ESU Debating Cup competition at Virum and Næstved gymnasiums. 12 schools participated, 4 went into the semi-finals and Virum and Sorø Akademi were the finalists. The winner was Virum Gymnasium (pictured here with ESU Patroness, Countess Alexandra).
The schools, i.e. two teams, had to discuss pro and con a given subject-matter.
Countess Alexandra, who is our Patroness, presented the ESU debating cup to the winning team from Virum Gymnasium on the 20th of November.
